Rotimi Chibuike Says Emergency Declaration Remains Illegal as Fubara Remains Rivers Governor
ROTIMI AMAECHI HITS TINUBU HARD BELOW BELTS
River's State of Emergency Declaration Remains Illegal as Fubara Remains Governor
AMINU BABATUNDE ADAMS Reporting Live from Portharcourt, NIGERIA.
In a scathing rebuke, former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has condemned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's decision to suspend Governor Sim Fubara, Deputy Governor, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Amaechi described the move as "undemocratic, unconstitutional, and brazenly reckless".
According to Amaechi, the President's actions have technically suspended democracy in Rivers State, violating the Nigerian Constitution.
He emphasized that Section 188 of the Constitution clearly outlines the process for removing a State Governor, which does not include a presidential proclamation.
Amaechi warned that this move sets a dangerous precedent, threatening Nigeria's democracy and Constitution.
He urged politicians, State Governors, and Legislators to speak out against this illegality, calling on the National Assembly to reject the President's actions.
In contrast, the Rivers State Elders Council has expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his efforts to restore peace in the state.
However, the council's stance has been met with skepticism, given the ongoing crisis.
The crisis in Rivers State has been escalating, with Governor Fubara facing impeachment threats from the 27 lawmakers who defected to the APC.
The situation remains volatile, with many expecting further developments in the coming days.
